Comments: NewYorkology Basics: Walking

When our family visited from out of state for our wedding, I suggested that they stay to the sides of the sidewalk. If you're walking slow, you're bound to annoy a resident and then you will see the ugly side of NY. It's very simple, if you're not walking the same speed as the crowd, just move to the side. Also, it's better to have an inline double baby buggy rather than a side by side, they tend to hog the sidewalk.

I actually almost suffered an aneurism trying to walk in New York--I found people to walk much, MUCH slower than my Native San Francisco.

Perhaps it's the heat, or maybe we're trying to warm up...either way, it was about half-speed for me.
