There's also The Campbell Apartment in Grand Central.

Some places certainly allow it without permission, though the city says the eight on the list are the only ones doing it legally. More info at nyc.gov.

I'll always fondly remember the time I was at a French bar in the Lower East Side last year. At midnight a little Frenchman stood up on the bar, turned down the music and announced "Allo! Allo! You can smoke now!" The waiters handed out little plates to ash on, and suddenly everyone was smoking. I don't even smoke and I smoked, just because that's what counts for naughty these days.

There is also Barkley-Rex in Broad street in Downtown. They just have a lounge where you can sit, have some free coffee and enjoy your smoke and some conversation with other smokers.

Thanks for publishing this list--now I know what places to avoid.

Death to all smokers.

Not to worry, Charles-A Rovra. I'm sure the atmosphere at these places will be far more enjoyable without your presence
