Comments: Gansevoort: bad bar, bad neighbor, bad food
Sounds like this could be some sour grapes from the incumbent businesses in the neighborhood. I stayed at the Gansevoort in February and I thought the service was great. I agree to an extent about the bar, although I'd like to return in the summer when it's open-air -- if you're not staying at the hotel it's probably not worth the trip to the bar during the winter when the balcony is tented off. One of the most frequent comments about the bar is that it's not worth $12-14 for a cocktail, which I'd agree with (then again, if you're looking to economize you can always just drop $4 for a Pabst Blue Ribbon at Coyote Ugly around the corner). But I'd definitely stay at the hotel again. It's the best hotel in that area of manhattan by far.
