Comments: Coney Island's Astroland closing after 2007 season

Im sad that this is happening because the park had alot of memories of my childhood. every year i drove from long island to visit. just the thought of knowing that i have to say goodbye hurts.it was like family. the thought of seeing an empty lot is also sad.goodbye coneyisland you will never be forgotten.

Buying out a place as unique, special, and magical as Coney Island to make another generic vegas replica?! have these people no soul? Ouch!

Once again, people with money in their bloodstreams hurting the people with actual blood in them. This is unfortunate, costly, and simply unnecessary.

Great Idea... Maybe consider selling off Yosemite Valley. Liberty and Ellis islands would be great places for expensive private resorts for the rich. While profit is what business is all about, greed seems to be the only driving force in today's decisions.
It's disgusting that my youngest son will never see a great piece of Americana.

GOOD NIGHT...Astroland. Thanks for the memories.

I just visited NYC this past weekend and made a point to see Coney Island simply because it is closing, a place I had never been befor

What a great spot! I really felt like I heard the whispers of another time - a time when the NYC area was a simpler place.

Visit before it's too late.

I have been trying to get out to CI more this summer than I regrettably have in recent years, knowing any time there at this point is precious and limited. I had a hard time just enjoying it last night however, knowing that the dreaded end is a quickly approaching and final reality. I am mad mostly at the people who sold out to Thor, because them doing so gave way for his bulldozers. They got one of the local business people to sign a lease so she could get one more summer and he evicted her two days later. It's really really sad that no one fought more for this and that money matters so much in a world where there are endless opportunities to make more in aplace that is less important. Making deals with developers are like making deals with the devil, because they know how to trick you into working with them until they have your say so and all the control, then they proceed in a way you wouldn't have wanted. I am not sure there will be any reason for me to love NY anymore, I'm just so sorry I hadn't been able to live there years ago and enjoy it then because everything that there was to love about the real NY is going to be gone forever. I will miss CI very much, and tho they insist it isn't closing, to people who love it just the way it is, it will be. I feel bad for people at Ruby's who have been there for decades, just go in and you see what's left of the real Brooklyn spirit. Endless photographs throughout CI's past and a tigh knit relaxed group of good people having innocent fun. Thanks Guiliani for making the city suffer for the embarrassment you felt from your father's lifestyles.
