Empire State in Dec. to light up for Christmas, Chanukah
For the month of December, the top tiers of the Empire State Building will light up for a handful of events, including a few nights of split lighting to simultaneously observe both Chanukah and Christmas.
The December colors for the Empire State Building, according to the official lighting schedule for the skyscraper:
Dec. 1 - red in honor of (RED) and World AIDS Day
Dec. 5 - blue, green and green in honor of the Baby Buggy 10th Anniversary
Update: Dec. 9 through 11 - red to raise awareness for the anti-dolphin slaughter film “The Cove”
Update: Dec. 19 - red, green and green for an unidentified “filming” project
Dec. 20 through 22 - blue, white and blue for Chanukah
Dec. 23 through 28 27 - split lighting for the holidays: red, green and green for Christmas on the north and south sides; and blue white and blue for Chanukah on the east and west.

Update: Dec. 28 - split lighting for the 2012 Bridgestone National Hockey League Winter Classic: orange, orange and white for the Philadelphia Flyers on the north and south sides; and blue, red and white on the east and west for the New York Rangers
Update: Dec. 29 - split lighting for the Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium; red, white and red on the north and south sides for Rutgers University; red, yellow and red on the east and west sides for Iowa State University
Update: Dec. 30 through Jan. 8 3 - red, green and green for Christmas.
The schedule is subject to change. The top three tiers of the tower light up with regular white lights on nights when no event is scheduled.
