Lottery opens for October's Free Night of Theater
Registration has opened for New York City’s Free Night of Theater, which offers completely free access to shows throughout October including “Black Angels Over Tuskegee,” “NOCTÚ,” “Orson’s Shadow” and “Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind” as well as a David Templeton recital at Carnegie Hall, a Ramblin’ Jack Elliott performance at the Highline Ballroom, and a Rodney Crowell concert at B.B. King Blues Club & Grill.
The full list of offerings are available after registration on the Free Night of Theater website. Once registered, you’ll be asked to select five shows you’d like to see. Winners will be chosen by lottery, with each person able to snag up to five pairs of tickets.
This year there are two rounds of ticket giveaways. Currently Round 1 is open until Sept. 23 for performances from October 1 through 16. The lottery for Round 2 will open Sept. 30 through Oct. 7 for performances from Oct. 17 through 31.
Started in 2003, the Free Night of Theater is a national program created by the Theater Communications Group to attract new audiences to the performing arts.
Update as of Sept. 30: The second batch of tickets — covering Oct. 17 through 31 — has gone live with offerings including “Sons of the Prophet,” “Suicide, Incorporated,” “Danny and Sylvia: The Danny Kaye Musical,” “Harry & Eddie: The Birth of Israel,” “Little Shop of Horrors,” “Makbet,” “Nightlands,” “Super Shaw 2011,” “Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind,” “Black Angels Over Tuskegee” and performances by the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and Ice Theatre of New York.
