Northside Fest, other summer concerts announced

It’s only March but the free summer concert season is starting to take shape as both Celebrate Brooklyn and the Northside Festival have started naming names.

Beirut, Twin Sister, Deer Tick, Allo Darlin’, Javelin, Ava Luna, Delicate Steve and Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt are among the acts confirmed for the Northside Festival, scheduled from June 16 through 19.

Multi-show badges (for $60) and individual tickets to the all-ages Beirut show at McCarren Park on June 17, (for $25) go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, according to sponsors L Magazine.

Celebrate Brooklyn, which offers both free and benefit events at Prospect Park during the summer, will kick off its 33rd season on June 10 with a free concert by Andrew Bird.

The Decemberists and Best Coast will play a Celebrate Brooklyn benefit show on June 14. Tickets, for $35, go on sale Friday at noon.

A handful of other summer venues have announced plans for 2011.

SummerStage hasn’t yet confirmed performers, but it has trickled out the dates and locations for its non-Central Park events, including all of the outer boroughs, East River Park, Tompkins Square Park, Highbridge Park and Marcus Garvey Park.

Update as of March 11: BrooklynVegan reports that Arctic Monkeys have already announced a Central Park Summerstage show for May 24. Those tickets go on sale today at Ticketmaster, which also lists a Florence and the Machine show for June 24.

Free classical Naumberg Concerts at the Central Park Bandshell are scheduled for June 20, July 26, Aug. 9 and Aug. 22.

Two shows are so far scheduled for Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield: Ray Lamontagne and the Pariah Dogs on May 31 and The Script on June 4.

The ticketed Governors Ball Music Festival on June 18 on Governors Island will feature Girl Talk, Pretty Lights, Empire of the Sun, Miami Horror and Passion Pit.

Make Music New York is set for June 21.

The Jones Beach concert season thus far includes Def Leppard with Heart on July 12, Jimmy Buffett on Aug. 19, and Christina Aguilera on a “date TBA,” according to the Live Nation website. The Eclipse Tour — with Journey, Foreigner and Night Ranger — is also scheduled to make a stop there Aug. 17.

The Lincoln Center Festival, from July 5 through Aug. 14, will include the Royal Shakespeare Company’s residency at the Park Avenue Armory.

Shakespeare in the Park this summer will feature “All’s Well That Ends Well” and “Measure for Measure.” Performances are scheduled from June 6 through July 31.

Free, outdoor Brooklyn Bridge Park Movies With A View will begin July 7, but the films have not yet been chosen.

Staten Island’s free outdoor Movies Under the Stars will begin June 17.

The Mermaid Parade happens June 18.

Update as of April 1: Celebrate Brooklyn has announced three free dance parties in Brooklyn Bridge Park in May and Summerstage said Talib Kweli will play Red Hook Park on June 21.

Update as of April 4: Sufjan Stevens will play the Prospect Park Bandshell on Aug. 12, with tickets on sale April 8 at noon, according to BrooklynVegan.

July 6 - Free Jarabe de Palo, Ely Guerra, Novalima and Mr. Pauer at 7 p.m. in Central Park for the Latin Alternative Music Conference
July 9 - Free ChocQuibTown, Rita Indiana, Ursula 1000 and Que Bajo?! at 3 p.m. in Central Park for the Latin Alternative Music Conference
July 17 - Free Pink Martini in Central Park at 7 p.m.
Aug 19 - Free dre.dance in East River Park at 7 p.m.

Jones Beach has also added Hall and Oates on June 11.

Update as of April 8: On June 18 at 4 p.m., Guided by Voices will play a ticketed show at McCarren Park.

Summerstage announced more shows via Twitter:
June 7 - Night at the Caravanserai: Tales of Wonder featuring Yo-Yo Ma, The Silk Road Ensemble and Silk Road Connect Students and Friends free show in Central Park at 6:30 p.m.
June 15 - Nice and Smooth and The Awesome 2 free show at Herbert Von King Park in Brooklyn at 7 p.m.
July 15 and 16 - Special Commission Dance & Music with Vijay Iyer, free, at 8 p.m. in Central Park

Following noise complaints, the free Seaside Summer Concert Series will not be held in Asser Levy Park this summer, NY1 reports, but Borough President Marty Markowitz vows to find a new, nearby location.
