Free Mets, Yankees ferry returns for all home games

The free baseball water taxi will return for 2011, providing one-way transportation from Manhattan to all regular-season Yankees and Mets home games, a spokeswoman for New York Water Taxi today told NewYorkology via e-mail.

The free ferry comes courtesy of Delta Airlines, which sponsored the same free service in 2010.

The set up will be the same as last season, except the ferry will make an extra pickup at East 35th Street on the way to the games.

On game days, a ferry will depart from Pier 11/Wall Street Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport, head up the East River to East 35th and proceed to either the dock at Yankee Stadium or the dock at World’s Fair Marina next to Citi Field. A cash bar is available on the ferry. Passengers are on their own for the return trip.

metswatertaxipier17The free tickets can be picked up at Pier 11 two hours before departure, but since there are only 147 spots available per game, you can also print tickets from home. Not all 147 spots are available for advance reservation, and there is a $1 service charge per ticket if you print your own. Reservations are now available on the Water Taxi’s website.

Rain dates are not covered. Playoffs might be, the NY Water Taxi spokeswoman told NewYorkology.

Correction as of April 21: Unlike last year, the baseball water taxis this season depart from Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport, not the nearby Pier 11 near the base of Wall Street.
