LaGuardia begins shared-cab rates to Midtown from $18

taxiattheplazahotel.jpgCab sharing has formally come to LaGuardia Airport, allowing passengers to pay as little as $18 per person for a trip into Midtown.

“At LGA, from the Marine Air Terminal, you can share a cab with one other person for $22 or with two other people for $18 and go anywhere in Midtown between 35th and 59th Streets, from 2nd to 8th Avenues weekdays from 7 – 10 AM and 4 – 8 PM,” states the e-mail advisory sent out this morning by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the operators of the region’s airports.

Although the Port Authority’s online taxi page and even its 1-800-AIR RIDE info hotline isn’t yet updated with the news, a taxi dispatcher at the airport confirmed the cab shares started last week.

Note the cab share is only in use at the smaller Marine Air Terminal, only during specific weekday hours, and only to specific portions of Midtown.

Normally a fare from LaGuardia to Midtown (before tips and tolls) costs $21 to $30, according to the Port Authority.

Between JFK and Manhattan, there is a flat-rate $45 fare to the first destination, plus tolls and tips.

Earlier this year, Manhattan started a few cab-share programs targeted at morning commuters.

Related: A ferry from LaGuardia is still possible, but not soon.
