Fraunces Tavern Museum restaurant to reopen in June
The restaurant and bar at the Colonial-era Fraunces Tavern Museum will reopen around June 1 under the operation of The Porterhouse Group from Dublin, Ireland, museums officials said today.
The restaurant and bar has been closed since February, but the upstairs museum remains open. The building — which has gone through many architectural changes and a fire — is famous as the location where victorious Gen. George Washington bade farewell to his officers in 1783.
The Porterhouse Group operates several restaurants, pubs, a hotel and a microbrewery in Dublin. This will be its first American operation.
The Fraunces Tavern Museum is located at 54 Pearl St., map.
Update: The Sons of the Revolution in the State of New York, Inc. announced another delay on May 26: “Fraunces Tavern® Restaurant remains temporarily closed as The Porterhouse Group, its new tenant/manager as of April 1, 2010, continues to make preparations for the Restaurant’s refurbishment and reopening. At this time the date of reopening, originally anticipated as on or about June 1, 2010 has been extended. A new opening date has not been specified at this time but an announcement will be forthcoming from the Restaurant shortly before it reopens.”
