rockcentertree2009.JPG

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree on Wednesday will be lit for the first time this season during a two-hour beginning at 7 p.m.

This year’s tree is a 76-foot-tall, 40-foot wide, 10-ton Norway Spruce. It will be decorated with a Swarovski star and 720 LED bulbs on 3,000 feet of wire.

NBC will televise the event with appearances by Jane Krakowski, Zachary Levi, Aretha Franklin, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Taylor Schilling, The Roots, Barry Manilow, James Tupper, Michael Buble and the Radio City Rockettes.

The tree will remain in Rockefeller Center through Jan. 7 and will be lit up daily from 5:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m., except for Christmas when it the lights will stay on for 24 hours, and for shortened hours — 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. — on New Year’s Eve.
