Met Opera free rehearsals start with 'Tosca' on Sept. 17
The Metropolitan Opera said today it will open its doors for three free Open Houses this season, including the final dress rehearsals for “Tosca,” “Les Contes d’Hoffmann” and “Armida.”
The “Tosca” Open House will take place Sept. 17, four days before the opening night gala. It will star Karita Mattila in the new Luc Bondy staging of the Puccini opera under the music direction of James Levine. The free tickets will be given out at the Met box office on Sunday, September 13 starting at noon, two per person max.
A question-and-answer session will follow the 11 a.m. dress rehearsal, but the Met made no mention of a chance to walk across the stage that was offered during prior Open House events.
The second Open House will be held Nov. 30 for Bartlett Sher’s new production of Offenbach’s “Les Contes d’Hoffmann,” starring Joseph Calleja. The third Open House will be April 9 for Mary Zimmerman’s new production of Rossini’s “Armida” starring Renée Fleming.
