Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island to open for night access
For two nights only, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island will open at night as part of National Park Week.
Ellis Island will open Sept. 24 only and the Statue of Liberty will open Sept. 25 only. The price is $29 per person per night; that includes the round-trip ferry access, dinner on the island and a “first glimpse of Ken Burns’ major new documentary on the history of National Parks of the United States,” according to the website for Statue Cruises, which is the only ferry company allowed to transport the public to the islands.
Update: There will be a total of 1,200 tickets for each night, a Statue Cruises spokesperson told NewYorkology. While the interior of the statue will not be open on Liberty Island, the Great Hall on Ellis Island will be open. Kids are allowed both nights.
Update II: As of noon Sept. 24, there are still 450 tickets available for tonight’s Ellis Island trip, a Statue Cruises spokesperson told NewYorkology. Tickets can be purchased online, by phone or in person at the ticket booth. Friday’s Liberty Island event is sold out.
