Empire State Building's busy fall season color scheme

After spending the end of the summer holiday mainly all white, the Empire State Building’s colors are back in business, lighting its top three tiers to mark a number of events this month.

The lights come on around sunset and remain lit until 2 a.m. unless they’re put out during bird migrations. The Empire State Building lighting schedule is online, with the colors listed in order as seen from the street, bottom to top. The list:

Sept 10 - orange/orange/white for Food Bank NYC, NYC Goes Orange

Sept. 11 - red/white/blue in memory of Sept. 11, 2001

Sept 12 and 13 - yellow/yellow/yellow for U.S. Tennis Association, US Open finals weekend. Update: Sept. 14 was added to the yellow schedule

Sept. 15 - blue/blue/blue for the United Nations General Assembly

Sept. 16 - purple/yellow/white for FFAWN Foundation, GUCCI for FFAWN Day

Sept. 18 and 19 - yellow/red/black for the 52nd Annual Steuben Day Parade

Sept. 20 - green for Eid-al-Fitr, the Festival of Fast-breaking

Sept. 24 - green for “The Wizard of Oz” 70th Anniversary Emerald Gala Celebration

Oct. 2 through 4 - blue/blue/white for the American Academy of Dramatic Arts’ 125th Anniversary.
