TGI Friday's plans to open on Union Square East
Further changing the character of Union Square, TGI Friday’s and a Tim Hortons will occupy the former Zen Palate space at 16th Street, (map,) the restaurant operator The Riese Organization announced today.
Nordstrom Rack and Best Buy recently announced plans to take over other storefronts facing Union Square.
“We are pleased to be a part of the exciting resurgence of Union Square and to introduce TGI Friday’s and Tims to this great neighborhood,” Dennis Riese, Chairman and CEO of The Riese Organization said in a statement.
One detail worth noting: While the headline of the company’s press release touts “TGI Friday’s and Tim Hortons to Occupy 34 Union Square East,” the text of the note uses the word “tentative.”
The Riese Organization said it signed a contract to acquire the building and “tentative plans call for a TGI Friday’s and a Tim Hortons in the new Union Square building, although as is customary with Riese, they will also pursue rental possibilities for the site at the same time.”
Nordstrom Rack plans to open in Spring 2010 at One Union Square South, (also known as 52 E. 14th St., map,) the space recently vacated by the Virgin MegaStore.
Best Buy will move into the old Circuit City space (at 52 E 14th St., map,) in mid-November, according to its Twitter and Facebook pages.
