Serena, Venus to play 'center court' at Bryant Park
Bryant Park this week will install two regulation US Open tennis courts to host a day of free play for the public, and the likes of Venus and Serena Williams.
The courts will be open Wednesday only — from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. — for the DIRECTV ESPN US Open Experience – a free tennis exhibition and US Tennis Association clinic.
The public will be able to take the courts from 9 to 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. to play against local pros — and possibly match up against James Blake or another tennis star, according to event organizers.
The pros — also including the Jensen and Bryan brothers — will play exhibitions games against each other from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The US Open will be played Aug. 31 through Sept. 13 in Queens at the at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. Arthur Ashe Kids’ Day is set for Aug. 29 and will feature Will Ferrell, Jordin Sparks and Andy Roddick.
