Vendy Awards names best sweet street vendor finalists

The non-profit Street Vendor Project on Thursday announced the finalists in the dessert category for the Vendy Awards, which will determine the city’s best street eats.

Big Gay Ice Cream Truck - Doug Quint (with Bryan Petroff)
Soft Serve Ice Cream

Wafels & Dinges - Thomas DeGeest

Cupcake Stop - Lev Ekster

The nominees in the primary non-snackie category are the Biryani Cart, King of Falafel, Rickshaw Dumpling, Jamaican Dutchy and Country Boys/Martinez Taco Truck.

The Vendy Awards will be handed out September 26 at the Queens Museum of Art, outdoors near the Unisphere in Flushing Meadows Corona Park. Advance tickets for the awards ceremony — food included — are $80 for adults or $40 for children.
