summerrestaurantweek2009logo.jpgTo promote the Sunday start of Summer Restaurant Week, free food tastings will be held today at The Shops at Columbus Circle, along with a free performance by the cast of Broadway’s “Hair.”

Chefs participating in today’s Coca-Cola Great Tastes of Summer event include Daniel Boulud and Olivier Muller from db Bistro Moderne; Stéphane Motir from Tribeca Grill; Jose Liriano from Bice Ristorante; Anthony Ricco and Ellie Rodriguez from Spice Market; and Michael Ammirati and Wayne Harley Brachman from Porter House New York.

The event is scheduled from noon to 2 p.m., with the “Hair” performance at 12:45 p.m.

Summer Restaurant Week offers three-course prix-fixe lunches for $24.07 and dinners for $35 (plus tax, tip and usually beverage,) at more than 200 of the city’s best dining spots. The deals runs from July 12-31, excluding Saturdays. Some restaurants opt-out of Sundays, and some offer the deal only at lunch or dinner, while many do both.
