Free weekly tours: Central Park to Governors Island

Among all the NYC tours for locals and novices, several are offered for free each week.

Many are sponsored by the city or federal parks department or a business improvement districts but led by certified guides. Here’s a list of several offered at the same time every week, followed by links to groups that frequently offer other free tours in New York.

Monday

Varied free tours:
Central Park Conservancy offers free walking tours nearly every day
NYC Urban Park Rangers offers several free walking tours every day
City Hall and the Tweed Courthouse tours are available on weekdays (NYC Public Design Commission)
National Park Service frequently offers free tours at its New York City locations
Greenwich Village walking tour (every other Saturday through Oct. 10)
Bronx Culture Trolley first Wednesday of each month
Freshkills Park site tours are offered frequently through November (NYC Parks Dept.)
All Big Apple Greeter tours are free but must be booked in advance

Even with free tours, tips are likely appreciated.
