Free for kids: carousel rides, SpongeBob in wax
The pristine 1912 carousel in Prospect Park will be offering free rides for children under 12 every Thursday in August, courtesy of Astoria Federal Savings.
Granted, the usual price is only $1.50 per ride, but free’s free.
The carousel features 51 hand carved horses, a giraffe, lion, deer and two dragon-pulled chariots. Its Wurlitzer organ is outfitted with 141 pipes and 16 bells.
For the second half of July, Madame Tussauds NY will offer free admission to kids 12 and under - with one catch. The whole family needs to be dressed in yellow. (It’s OK if it’s just one parent taking in the kids, so long as everyone’s in yellow, a museum spokesperson told NewYorkology.)
The free children’s admission coincides with the arrival of SpongeBob SquarePants in wax, in honor of the SpongeBob’s 10th anniversary. The yellow deal runs from July 15 through July 31.
The regular walk-up price for a child’s ticket to Madame Tussauds is $28.
