Tony Awards show to offer $40 student rush tickets

The Tony Awards seating chart, in all its color-coded gorgeou... on TwitpicStudents, please show your ids, as it may get you into this Sunday’s black-tie Tony Awards for a mere $40.

For the first time ever, the venerable Tony Awards will hold a lottery to give away rush tickets for the big Broadway awards show held at Radio City Music Hall.

Regular tickets to the Tony Awards are $154.50 to $404.50.

To get student rush tickets for the 2009 Tony Awards, you need to be at the Broadway Concierge & Ticket Center in Times Square this Thursday at 11 a.m. You must be a student “in the New York metro area” to enter the lottery, and even then, only the first 200 students with valid identification will have a shot at the contest.

That same day at 3 p.m., the drawing will be handled by Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis of “Rock of Ages” and his fellow cast-member James Carpinello.

This year’s Tony Awards will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris. There will be performances by Elton John with the cast of “Billy Elliot, The Musical;” Dolly Parton with the cast of “9 to 5: The Musical;” Liza Minnelli; Stockard Channing; the casts of “Hair,” “Next to Normal,” “Pal Joey,” “Shrek,” “West Side Story;” … and the band Poison with the cast of “Rock of Ages.”

Presenters will include Will Ferrell, Angela Lansbury , Jane Fonda, Kevin Spacey, James Gandolfini, Edie Falco, Susan Sarandon, Nicole Kidman, Carrie Fisher, Jeff Daniels, Frank Langella, Jessica Lange, Anne Hathaway, Audra McDonald, Kristin Chenoweth, David Hyde Pierce and John Stamos.

The Tonys will also be broadcast live into Times Square on the Clear Channel Spectacolor Screen from 7 to 11 p.m.
