MetroCard fare rises to $2.25 today for subway, bus

Effective today, the basic fare to ride the subway or bus in New York City is $2.25, up from $2.

The monthly 30-day MetroCard is now $89, up from $81; the 14-day MetroCards is $51.50, up from $47; a 7-day unlimited card is now $27,up from $25; and a one-day pass is $8.25, up from $7.50.

The full chart of fee hikes shows the MTA has spread the joy far and wide. Bridge and tunnel tolls have gone up at most crossings and commuter fares have hiked up as well.

The $2 base MetroCard fare had been in place since May 4, 2003 (when it jumped from $1.50.)
