Broadway's 'SPIDER-MAN' pre-pre-sale has begun

spidermanflyer.jpgPre-sale tickets have gone on sale for Broadway’s “SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark,” which will feature music and lyrics from Bono and The Edge.

The pre-sale code SPIDEY for Ticketmaster was announced in an e-mail to anyone who had signed up for news alerts from the show’s official Broadway website. The catch is that it’s a pre-sale to the American Express pre-sale, but even with the password, you still must purchase with AmEx. The pre-pre sale is valid through June 23.

Tickets are priced $67.50 to $95 for the balcony; $135 for the orchestra of “flying circle” level; and $275 for premium seating. There is an extra $8 convenience charge at Ticketmaster and a
$2 building facility charge.

Groups of 12 or more can also purchase now with tickets from $50 each.

The general public can buy individual tickets starting September 12.

Today’s SPIDER-MAN e-mail promises “stunts and breathtaking aerial effects from an international team of artists from Broadway, Cirque du Soleil, the Beijing Olympics and the Spider-Man films.”

Casting for the musical has not been announced, but it’s directed by Tony-winning Julie Taymor of the”Lion King.” She’s also co-written the book with Glen Berger, promising “a new take on the mythic tale of a young man propelled from a modest rowhouse in Queens to the sky-scraping spire of the Chrysler Building, the bustling offices of the Daily Bugle, through the dizzying canyons of Manhattan, to new vistas never before seen.”

The origin story will follow Peter Parker as he learns “that with great power comes great responsibility.” The audience will meet “new characters as well as familiar faces – until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero’s journey,” according to promotional materials for the show.

Previews begin January 16, 2010 with opening night scheduled for February 18, 2010. “SPIDER-MAN Turn Off The Dark” will play the Hilton Theatre at 213 W. 42nd St., map.
