Water Taxi Beach to get free Fri/Sat night water taxis

watertaxibeachlic.jpgThe original Water Taxi Beach in Long Island City will feature free Water Taxi service from Midtown every Friday and Saturday night from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend.

The free ride, which normally costs $5, will be on offer only from the Manhattan’s E. 35th Street at the East River, a spokeswoman for the company told NewYorkology. The rides will be free from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. on Fridays and until 3 a.m. on Saturdays beginning May 23.

The 44,000 square foot beach opens for the season on Memorial Day weekend. The full schedule is available at the NY Water Taxi’s website.

Two more Water Taxi Beaches are in the works for this summer. The Water Taxi Beach/South Street Seaport will also make its debut on Memorial Day weekend. The Seaport preview will feature Melting Pot NYC (on May 22,) and Studio 54 DJ Nicky Siano (on May 23) with a Saturday Night Fever show. Starting May 22, the Seaport beach will be open daily from 11 a.m., with food and bar service. But it may take a few more days to get all the amenities in place, such as the miniature golf course, in time for the May 30 grand opening.

The Governors Island Water Taxi Beach will open July 4 weekend.
