Times Sq marks Broadway closure with 'On the Town'

bwayclosedat47.jpgAs Broadway shuts to traffic between 42nd and 47th streets starting Sunday, Times Square plans to celebrate on Memorial Day with a free screening of the “On the Town,” a New York classic starring Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra.

But even after Fleet Week and Memorial Day have come and gone, broadway will remain closed to traffic through Times Square, pushing all traffic onto 7th Avenue as it passes through the Crossroads of the World.

Chairs will be provided for anyone who wants to see the noontime screening of the 1949 musical, which will screen on Clear Channel Spectacolor’s “SpectacolorHD” video screen on 47th and Broadway.
