Michelle Obama to visit Met Museum, Am. Ballet gala

First Lady Michelle Obama on Monday will add star power to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s revamped American Wing, and later will appear at the American Ballet Theatre’s Opening Night Gala, according to ABT the CultureGrrl arts blog.
“It is with honor and great pleasure that we welcome Michelle Obama to American Ballet Theatre’s Opening Night Gala celebration,” ABT’s Artistic Director Kevin McKenzie said in a statement. “This administration’s commitment to the arts and, in particular, arts education, is music to our ears. The combination of seasoned artists and young talent on our stage is a true testament to the importance of that ongoing commitment.”
Mrs. Obama and President Barack Obama are Honorary Chairmen of ABT’s 2009 Spring Gala.
Tickets to the ballet gala at Lincoln Center are still on sale from $30.
The Met’s American Wing, including the Charles Engelhard Court and American period rooms, will reopen to the public on May 19.
