Free bike rental in Lower Manhattan to start May 13
Starting May 13, you’ll be able to borrow a bike for free in Lower Manhattan for up to two and a half hours through a program launched by the Downtown Alliance.
The bikes will be available at the South Street Seaport and can be returned at four locations in Manhattan, according to the Daily News. A credit card will be required as a gaurante, the paper reports.
Starting May 12, you’ll be able to reserve a bike in advance at downtownny.com/bikearound.
There will be several other ways to borrow free bikes in New York this summer:
Free Bike Friday will return to Governors Island from June 5 to October 9 through a program sponsored by Bike and Roll.
As part of the NY400 celebrations, the Dutch government gave the city 200 orange bikes. The will be “made available to the public at a number of times throughout the year: a special bike sharing event Sept. 8-12; the New Island Festival on Governors Island Sept. 10-20; and the start of New York’s Harbor District on Sept 13,” according to the New York Times.
The Bowery and Maritime hotels offer free bikes for their guests.
