Free Statue of Liberty ferries for Fleet Week uniformed

Here’s a nice coupling of liberty and freedom: U.S. military in uniform will be offered free transportation to the Stature of Liberty and Ellis Island during the first three days of Fleet Week.
The bonus for the men and women in uniform is courtesy of the National Park Service and Statue Cruises, the company that operates all the public ferries to Liberty and Ellis islands.
Normally, a round-trip ferry ticket to both islands costs $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and $5 per child. (The monument passes — which are required for access into the statue’s pedestal and museum — are free but must be reserved in advance or picked up first thing in the morning at the ticket booth before the entire day’s allotment is given away, sometimes in as little as five minutes. The free military tickets cannot be acquired online.)
During the three-day Fleet Week promotion — Wednesday, May 20 through Friday, May 22 — friends and family of members of the military will be offered the usual military discount of $10.
And starting Saturday, May 23 through Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, Statue Cruises will offer members of the U.S. military in uniform free tickets to ride the 90-minute Liberty Harbor Cruise. (The Liberty Harbor Cruise leaves Gangway No. 3 in Battery Park at 11 a.m., 12:30, 2, 3:30 5 and 7 p.m.)
Call (877) 523-9849 for more information about free U.S. military tickets.
Fleet Week begins Wednesday with the parade of ships and a flyover.
