Dutch to deliver 200 free bikes to NYC for NY400
There’s big news on two wheels coming as part of the NY 400 celebration of the Dutch Captain Henry Hudson’s 1609 arrival at the shores of what would become New York City.
On Dutch Queen’s Day — that’s Thursday, April 30 — the Dutch Government will present New York City with 200 bright orange Dutch manufactured Batavus bikes, which will get an inaugural test run up the Hudson as part of an orange bike tour. (Registration’s already closed.)
The tour will make a stop at Riverside Church for a Dutch Queen’s Day Carillon Concert of “Perfect Day” at 11:30 a.m. attended by Lou Reed, and then head to Museum of the City of New York to visit the exhibition “Amsterdam/New Amsterdam: The Worlds of Henry Hudson.”
As for the bikes, the news release from NYC & Co., the city’s official tourism bureau, only hints at specifics:Deputy Mayor Robert Lieber and NYC & Company CEO George Fertitta will receive the bikes on behalf of City, highlighting the various ways in which the bikes will be made available for free to the public throughout the season and calling attention to new and improved pathways for cyclists throughout NYC.
