'West Side Story' a hit at box office even in previews

“West Side Story,” which is still in previews, looks like it’s a hit even before the critics get a chance to weigh in on the merits ofthe revival.
Variety reports the box office already grossed “a boffo $1,042,713 for its first seven preview perfs.”
The Palace Theater has been around 96 percent capacity and opening night is still more than two weeks away, March 19.
Even on a stellar cold Monday last night, demand was brisk at the $26.50 front-row ticket lottery held two hours before every performance. There are 18 of the cheap seats available at each drawing.
Regular tickets are priced $46.50 to $121.50. Premium seats are $300.
