The bar is open: 'Rock of Ages' begins Broadway run

ROA_logo_sm.jpgEven if your ears don’t perk up to the chords of a Night Ranger power ballad — but how could they not?? — you’ll probably still want to know something about “Rock of Ages,” which begins previews on Broadway tonight.

There’s a full bar at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, and for the run of “Rock of Ages,” the cocktails will come to you, in your seat, during the show.

It’s true.

What else? Not content with the YouTube and Twitter gee-gaws, the “Rock of Ages” website has its own branded game of Pong as well as a Virtual Zippo Lighter download for iPhone.

The show also has a range of cheap seats, including a daily lottery for $26.50 seats in the orchestra (register at the box office two hours before the show,) and regular orchestra and front mezzanine seats during previews for $49.50 (with the offer code PROCK.) Even after opening night on April 7, the show has pledged to offer the lowest prices for any show on Broadway, with regular seats selling for $26.50 to $99.00.
.
The plot. Really? You want to know the plot?

Think: Just a small town girl, living in a lonely world. Just a city boy. …

See, you didn’t really want to know about the plot. You want to know about the booze:
Starting 30 minutes before every show and during intermission, audience members seated in the orchestra will be able to buy color-coded drink chips (to eliminate money exchange/ credit card transactions during the show) from one of the several waiters disbursed throughout the orchestra or at the bar. The chips can then be redeemed during the show, from your seat, for the drink of your choice. While the show is playing (and if you have not purchased any drink chips or are seated in the mezzanine), drinks may be purchased at the bar and can then be taken back to your seat.
The musical stars Constantine Maroulis and features the music of Journey, Bon Jovi, Styx, Reo Speedwagon, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Twisted Sister, Poison, Asia and Whitesnake. “Rock of Ages” plays the Brooks Atkinson Theatre, 256 W. 47th St.
