Empire State Building to light up green until 4 a.m.
In honor of St. Patrick’s Day today, the Empire State Building will not only light up shamrock green, but it will stay up much later than usual.
Although the lights on the top tiers of the skyscraper normally power off abruptly at midnight, tonight they will stay on into the wee hours of the morning: 4 a.m.
March 17 is also significant for the Empire State Building, as it was on this day in 1930 when former New York state Governor Alfred E. Smith officially broke ground for the building.
The official website for the Empire State Building maintains a list of the upcoming lighting schedule for other events.
