Airport news: Southwest at LaGuardia, Passport Day
Southwest Airlines is expected to announce it will start service at LaGuardia Airport this summer, the Dallas Morning News reports, following a ruling that lets Southwest buy the assets of bankrupt ATA Airlines, inlcuding 14 takeoff and landing slots at LGA. (Link via USA Today.)
At Newark Liberty Airport, there are new bars in Terminal C, USA Today reports. Choices include the Guinness Irish Pub, the Samuel Adams bar/restaurant, Vino Volo wine bar and the Heineken Lounge.
The Port Authority is using Newark to test the new NextGen technology that will help planes fly and land more efficiently. (One assumes that has no association at all to the new bars at the same airport.)
The New York Times and Jaunted loves Lufthansa’s new premium passenger lounge at JFK.
National Geographic’s Intelligent Traveler blog notes that this Saturday is Passport Day, when Regional Passport Agencies and local Passport Acceptance Facilities will be open to the public for select hours throughout the day.
