Nearly-naked Polar Bear Cruise to benefit city zoos

If you always wanted to run with the polar bears, but have been too afraid to get wet, you’ve got a chance to meet them halfway next weekend during the “Naked” Polar Bear Cruise.
The Coney Island Polar Bear Club and Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises are teaming up for a benefit to help raise funds for the Wildlife Conservation Society, which operates several of New York City’s zoos, including the New York Aquarium and Bronx Zoo.
The February 28 cruise will depart from Pier 83 on the Hudson at W. 42nd Street at 8 a.m., heading toward the Statue of Liberty. Passengers who strip down to their bathing suits will ride for free (and are encouraged to sign up sponsors in advance) while clothed passengers will be charged $20 for the trip.
And passengers who Twitter during the trip will earn an extra $1 donation to charity from Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises.
Polar bears will not get in the water (though the Coney Island Sunday swims continue until April.)
