Jane Fonda's Broadway blog, as backstage as it gets
Jane Fonda is taking the term “backstage blog” to a new level.
Previews started Monday night for “33 Variations,” marking the actresses’ first return to Broadway in four decades. And while critics have long agreed to hold back reviews until opening night, apparently that doesn’t apply to the star with a new blog.
Fonda’s post from last night — titled “Oh My God!” — was written during the second act of the first preview performance of the new play. “I have a 15 minute break between my scenes and I can’t resist telling you how much the audience seems to be loving the play,” she wrote.
She pens a few more lines and then heads back on stage.
Fonda’s blog launched in January and has been offering a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Broadway, along with a dash of politics and other topics.
A number of other Broadway shows are blogging, including “South Pacific,” “Chicago,” and “Phantom of the Opera.”
The official website for the upcoming musical of “9 to 5” features a Shoot Your Boss game that even lets you upload a picture of your boss.
“Avenue Q” has a podcast and “Guys and Dolls” has its own YouTube channel.
While the Roundabout Theater has a blog , and the Cherry Lane Theatre has its own YouTube channel, the MCC Theater has a blog and a YouTube channel.
The Broadway transfer of “Rock of Ages” is on Twitter, and John_Lithgow was known to send tweets about his role in “All My Sons” and co-star Katie Holmes.
Many Broadway shows are on Facebook, MySpace, and BroadwaySpace, but only Will Ferrell’s “You’re Welcome America. A Final Night with George W Bush” is on MyFace.com.
