Cheap hotels in NY, but not quite Hotels.com $15 cheap

True, New York hotel rates are coming down, but not quite as low as the $15 a night at Holiday Inn Express/Midtown Fifth Avenue as touted on Hotels.com.
Although the website says that rate’s “first available on Saturday, Feb 28,” it’s not.
And to be fair, the Hotels.com operator was very apologetic and said he was heading off to talk to someone to get it fixed.
However, TraveZoo can you Hotel 57 for $99 per night and superior rooms for $119, through March 29. And they mean it. You must book by February 24.
The Tablet list shows the “lowest price over the last 30 days” at some big name hotels including $60 at the Gansevoort; $80 at the Royalton; $99 at Gild Hall and 6 Columbus and $100 at Tribeca Grand.
But if you punch in dates, say for the first Saturday in March you’re looking at nothing lower than $195 for the new Cooper Square or Standard hotels.
For that same Saturday, Quikbook has Eurostars Wall Street (formerly the Exchange) from $102; Park 79 from $117; the Holiday Inn Express in Brooklyn on Butler St. from $119; and a Best Western in Midtown from $126; the GEM Chelsea from $133; Helmsley Middletowne from $135; the Dylan for $136; Algonquin from $138 and even the The Cooper Square Hotel from $156.
The Pod Hotel is lowering rates again, with its “March Special” offering rooms from $69.
The Jane (which has been attracting protesters over its conversion into a hotel,) has rooms for $75 until April 3 when the rate will rise to $99.
