Anne Hathaway signs on for Shakespeare in the Park

siplogo.jpg(See updated story on cast, ticketing for Shakespeare in the Park 2009.)

Actress Anne Hathaway will play Viola this summer in Shakespeare in the Park’s free production of “Twelfth Night,” the Public Theater announced today.

The play, which will be directed by Daniel Sullivan, will run from June 10 through July 12 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

And as previously announced on the Public Theater’s website, Euripides’ “Bacchae” is also scheduled for this summer in Central Park. Casting hasn’t yet been announced, but it will be directed by JoAnne Akalaitis and get music by Philip Glass.

“The Bacchae” will run from August 11 through September 6.

Tickets will still be free, but you can donate $170 to become a “Summer Supporter” and get reserved seats to one show.

(Update: Since this story was originally published, the start date has been delayed by a day to June 10. The story above reflects that change.)
