'Addams Family' musical confirmed for Broadway 2010

addamsfamilyonbroadway.jpgThe Addams Family” will begin performances on Broadway as a musical starting March 5, 2010, according to the official website for the show.

No casting has been announced, but a January reading and workshop of the material featured Nathan Lane as Gomez, Bebe Neuwirth as Morticia, Kevin Chamberlin as Fester, Zachary James as Lurch and Marylouise Burke as Grandmama, Playbill reported.

Based on the New Yorker cartoons of illustrator Charles Addams, the show has been written by Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, (of “The Jersey Boys,”) with songs by Andrew Lippa, choreography by Sergio Trujillo.

“It’s an Addams Family portrait you’ve never seen before. Gomez, all mad impetuosity, Morticia, equal parts fire and ice, Fester, restless and romantic, Pugsley, for whom immediate gratification can’t come soon enough and Wednesday, eighteen years old and finally feeling what it means to be a woman. A family that’s quite shockingly, and endearingly, just like yours,” reads the description of the show at Chicago’s Oriental Theater, where it will play before coming to Broadway.

Opening night on Broadway is currently set for April 8, 2010.
