Hotel Penn rolls back rooms to $11 for anniversary

hotelpennroofgarden.jpgThe 90-year-old Hotel Pennsylvania is getting romantic, rolling back prices for anyone celebrating an anniversary of 50 years or more.

The 50-year rollback will get you a room for $11.

You’ll have to prove you’re celebrating a 50-plus anniversary, and you’ll have to pay for at least one night at the regular rate, which starts at $119.

A year ago, the St. Regis rolled back its rates to 1904, offering a suite for $4 for one night. But the catch there was that $4 price was for the second night of your stay. The first night would set you back at least $2,100.

Designed by McKim, Mead and White, the Hotel Penn first opened its doors on January 20, 1919, but under the name of the Statler Hotel Pennsylvania. It was the largest hotel in the world until 1927.

Its future is uncertain as plans are afoot to demolish the hotel. Save Hotel Penn is hoping to prevent its destruction.
