Pierre to reopen in May with Le Caprice; Smyth delays
The rooms of one of New York City’s grand old hotels, The Pierre, are scheduled to reopen in may after a year-plus renovation process, according to the hotel’s website.
Also, the hotel this year plans to open Le Caprice Restaurant, modeled after the London dining establishment of the same name.
The Le Caprice website pegs its New York debut “in May/June 2009, with the restaurant being designed by Martin Brudnizki in true Caprice style.”
Details on The Pierre’s room renovations:All 189 guest rooms, including 49 suites, have been transformed to feature a warm, inviting residential-style decor with a feeling of quiet luxury. High ceilings and abundant natural light evoke a gracious, airy experience that mirrors the new interiors. Color palettes, comprised of soft neutral tones in pale ivory, taupe and coral, are contrasted with rich woods and tufted leather headboards and matching benches. Richly textured silk and brocade fabrics in elegant neutrals with tasteful accents of color adorn upholstery, pillows, draperies and bed throws. Guest bathrooms have been enlarged to accommodate a fllor-to-ceiling glass-walled shower with oversized showerhead and multiple jet sprays and a marlbed-clad soaking tub.
The Pierre’s reopening is likely to come after the debut of the Smyth Tribeca which has once again pushed back its opening date.
Although the hotel website is still hopeful of a “January 2009” opening, HotelChatter.com reports “the hotel will open up about 50 percent of its rooms in February — though an exact date is still up in the air.”
