Must-read passengers' account of chaotic evacuation
The evacuation of US Airways Flight 1549 looked better from the outside.
Inside, some passengers were fighting for their overhead luggage, throwing elbows, and denying passage to the lady with the baby.
The New York Times this morning has an amazing account of the evacuation from the passengers, and frankly, it should be stapled to all those seat-back safety cards on every plane. Seriously, if you ever plan to fly in a commercial plane again, you should read this story and figure out what kind of person you’re going to be in an emergency.
Are you the one who knows to say: ‘No, you’ve got to throw it out,’ when the guy in the emergency exit row is trying to pull the door in?
Or are you “the woman in the fur coat who asked a stranger to go back inside the slowly sinking plane to fetch her purse”?
