Mile High club opens one-night only atop 30 Rock

The top of Rockefeller Center has hosted weddings, but this is the first time the newlyweds have been allowed to sleep over.

brides.thebedmilehi.jpg“It’s a rather nice hotel,” newlywed Ryan Pattee said this morning as he and his bride, Kelley, got checked in to the Brides Mile High Honeymoon Suite.

The Pattees will be the only guests at this one-night-only hotel at the top of 30 Rock. Tonight they’ll have full run of the 67th floor, including the outdoor balconies on either side of the honeymoon suite (which is normally called the Weather Room.)

Married since August, the Pattees of Wisconsin didn’t get a proper honeymoon as Kelley’s father was diagnosed by cancer, and then her mother broke a hip. They’re both OK now, but the honeymoon was still on hiatus. That’s until Ryan heard on TV about the Brides magazine search for the most romantic couple in the world who hasn’t yet had the honeymoon of their dreams.

Kelley didn’t even know about the contest until Ryan called her at work to tell her they’d won.

Their prize from Brides also includes a trip to Tahiti.

The Honeymoon Suite is set up at the eastern end of 30 Rockefeller Center in a space that’s normally open to anyone who buys a ticket to visit Top of the Rock. The space can also be rented for private events. During Fashion Week, the room will turn into a gallery for the Swarovski Red Dress show, as soon as the gowns come off the runway at Bryant Park.

The other Rockefeller Center space that allows weddings is 620 Loft & Garden, one of the private roof gardens facing Fifth Avenue. Normally closed to the public, they’ve briefly been accessible during Open House New York and during a promotion for Canadian Tourism.
