Food news: a new Restaurant Row, deal maps, shutters

Martha Stewart intends to crown the East Village’s East 10th Street as New York’s new Restaurant Row, the Post reports. Her focus: Graffiti, Rai Rai Ken, ChikaLicious and Momofuku Milk Bar.

The New York Times four-star list remains unchanged as a new review of Daniel by Frank Bruni confirms it’s still “one of New York’s most sumptuous dining experiences.”

Eater is doing a great recession-inspired dealfeed restaurant map.

Most of the city’s 26,000 dining establishments are sweating through “the toughest climate we’ve seen” in decades, the New York Times reports.

Jean Georges’ Nougatine is serving “$35 dinners, complete with hors d’oeuvres, three courses and after-dinner homemade marshmallows,” the Wall Street Journal notes in a story spelling out the food industry’s pain.

Big news: ties are no longer required at 21, Eater reports.

Food blogger Kevin Eats delivers a visual plate-by-plate pictorial at Per Se, where the dinner tasting menu remains $275 and lunch (Friday, Saturday and Sunday only,) is $175. (Link via The Feedbag.)

Gridskipper has produced a map of cheap eats in Queens.

As the unsuccessful Palm Court remains closed at The Plaza, “breakfast will now be served in the Oak Room,” according to the hotel’s website.

Recent closings include Fiamma, Ruby Foo’s on 77th Street and Chocolate bar on East 7th.
