Empire State Building goes red, white, blue for Obama
The lights atop the Empire State Building tonight will shine red, white and blue to honor the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
It’s the first time the skyscraper has been lit up in honor of an inauguration but they did do some red and blue lighting around Election Day 2008.
“Due to the anticipation of this year’s Presidential inauguration and the great response the election lighting received, the Empire State Building will celebrate Barack Obama’s inauguration with a red, white, and blue lighting,” James Connors, the general manager for the Empire State Building said in a statement. “With the Empire State Building lighting, we aim to celebrate democracy and honor the new Presidency, as well as contribute to the 2009 inauguration excitement.”
The first time the Empire State Building used colored lighting was in 1976, when the top tiers were red, white and blue for the American Bicentennial.
