US Helicopter tageting January 5 for Wall St. return

US Helicopter hopes to resume commuter service to JFK and Newark airports from the Downtown Heliport in early January, a company spokesman told NewYorkology this morning.
“Probably January 5,” US Helicopter’s VP of Marketing Donal McSullivan said.
The US Helicopter website states “Service to the Wall St. heliport (JRB) will re-commence in early January.” It’s accepting online bookings for January 5 with prices from $105 one way.
US Helicopter has been using only Manhattan’s E. 34th Street heliport since a new company took over management of the Downtown Heliport on November 1. Until that date, the heliport, located on the East River near the foot of Wall Street, had been managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. When it handed control over to First Flight, the Transportation Security Administration needed to reassess the safety plan for flights that would land in the airports’ secure zones. And apparently no one realized it might take two months for that approval.
McSullivan said he expects the new plan should result in no changes as far as customers can see. US Helicopter flights from Manhattan allow passengers and their luggage to clear TSA security at the heliport so they can skip security at the airport as long as they’re transferring directly to a partner airline. (US Helicopter partners are Continental at Newark and Delta at JFK.)
First Flight has not returned calls regarding the heliport’s status.
