Chatwal hotel targets Feb. 1 debut; Mark, Pierre later
Hotel opening dates are seldom precise in New York City, but hints to three upcoming openings can be found on the booking website for the Leading Hotels of the World.
The Chatwal, an art-deco club-style hotel in the Stanford White- designed Lambs Club, will open February 1 with 41 rooms and 47 suites, according to the Leading Hotels website.
The Chatwal launched its own website last month, but that site still touts an opening of “late 2008.”
And frankly, it’s pretty late to be aiming for 2008. Neither site is accepting reservations yet.
Next up is The Mark, which has been closed for a massive makeover that like The Plaza, will result in a part hotel/part condo set up. The official website for The Mark is still just a shell asking potential lodgers to e-mail for details. If you e-mail, the return message comes with a signature stating: “The Mark is currently undergoing an extensive renovation and will re-open February 2009 with 118 rooms and suites, restaurant by Jean-Georges Vongerichten and beauty and hair salon by Frederic Fekkai.”
However, the Leading Hotels website profile page of The Mark (with room pictures,) pegs the hotel’s opening at “late 2008.” No reservations are yet possible.
The last of the upcoming hotels listed on the Leading Hotels website is The Pierre, which is undergoing renovations. Leading Hotels states that the Pierre’s 149 rooms, 40 suites and 12 grand suites will reopen in “spring 2009” after the $100 million renovation is complete.
