Footlight Records going out of business November 30
After 30 years in business, Footlight Records went Internet-only in 2005, shuttering its East 12th Street shop stuffed with obscure Broadway soundtracks and cast recordings.
But now the news is even worse:
“We gave it our best try. Unfortunately with downloading, the economy, and other factors, staying open is no longer an option for us. Footlight Records will be closing on Sunday, November 30th,” reads the text stripped atop the shop’s website. “We want to thank everyone that has supported us over the past 30 years. All the best from all of us at Footlight.”
They’ve got “Joan Crawford: LIVE” from an appearance at Town Hall as well as “Judy Garland Speaks,” which are home voice tapes recorded as notes for her never-written autobiography.
You can also snag rare items such as “Casablanca - Film Scores for H. Bogart” and the original motion picture soundtrack to “Predator 2.”
