Fierstein returns to 'Hairspray' Nov. 11 for last 8 weeks

hairspraycloses.jpgHarvey Fierstein will join the cast of “Hairspray” November 11, providing an eight-week sendoff party for the Broadway musical’s final show January 4.

“hairspray” ranks as the 19th longest running show in Broadway history. By the time Edna Turnblad takes her final bow, the show will have played 2,641 performances plus 31 previews, according to Broadway World.

Based on the 1988 John Waters’ film, the musical opened on Broadway in 2002 with Fierstein in the cast. In 2007, it was returned to the screen, but with John Travolta.

“Hairspray” plays the Neil Simon Theatre, located at 250 W. 52nd St., map. Regular tickets are priced from $75 to $110 with premium seats for $240.
