Cosmopolitan, Washington Jefferson best cheap hotels
When Michelin earlier this month released its 2009 guide to New York City, much attention was paid to its restaurant reviews, but little fuss was made of the red guide’s hotel picks.
Little more than 50 of the city’s hotels warrant a Michelin review, and they’re all in Manhattan; of those, only a dozen get the “very pleasant” nod.
And there are a few bargains. Well, relative bargains. Two hotels are in the under $200 category: Washington Jefferson Hotel and the Cosmopolitan.
Eight others are listed in the $200 to $300 range:
Best Western Seaport Inn
Wall Street Inn
Roger Smith
The Vincci Avalon
Casablanca
Metro
Bentley
On the Ave
Unfortunately, none of those make the “very pleasant” list (but then again, neither do the Waldorf-Astoria, Jumeirah Essex House or Greenwich Hotel.)
Michelin’s very pleasant list:
Four Seasons NY
Gramercy Park Hotel
Hotel on Rivington
Inn at Irving Place
The Lowell
Mandarin Oriental
The Mercer
The Peninsula
The Plaza
Ritz-Carlton Battery Park
Ritz-Carlton Central Park
The St. Regis
