'Xanadu' musical to close on Broadway in October

xanaduclosing.jpgDouglas Carter Beane’s screen-to-stage rewrite of roller-disco era flick “Xanadu” will play its last show on Broadway on October 12, Playbill reports.

The surprisingly durable show will have played 528 regular performances and 49 previews by the time the last curtain falls. The show stars Kerry Butler, Cheyenne Jackson and Tony Roberts and recently benefited by a short run with Whoopi Goldberg as well.

It was nominated for four Tonys, including best musical, and garnered six nominations in the 2008 Drama Desk Awards and received the best new musical in the Outer Critics Circle Awards.

“Xanadu” plays the Helen Hayes Theatre, located at 240 W. 44th St., map. Tickets are $111.50 (even in mezzanine) with seats on the stage selling for $41.50. Student rush seats are sometimes available two hours before curtain for $26.50, cash only. Premium seats are $176.50 or $251.50 on Friday and Saturday nights.

For Xanadu merch, including leg warmers, hit Kira’s Skate Shop.
